Take a Second look at Safety was the theme of this year’s Child Accident Prevention Trust’s ‘Child Safety Week’, which ran from 20th to 26th June.  The Trust asked parents, carers and anyone who works with children to work together to help keep our children safe.

Fife Community Safety Partnership’s Fife Cares Service, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), NHS colleagues and Dundee City Blinds supported Child Safety Week on 20th June and Wednesday 22nd June with a promotion using Dundee City Blinds ‘promotion vehicle’ which took place at Fife Central Retail Park in Kirkcaldy between Sainsbury’s and Boots.

It is important for us all to feel safe, but we may not be aware of all the dangers within our homes, or the small things we can do to help prevent accidents. We are dedicating this week to raising awareness about dangers in the home and the hidden dangers posed by window blind cords by telling Fife residents what help is available for families to make their homes as safe as possible.

Fife is one of the three areas in Scotland being supported by RoSPA to deliver the ‘Make it Safe Campaign’ which has involved the partnership’s Fife Cares service in distributing the ‘Make it Safe’ leaflets, together with cleats, around which blind cords can be tied, as well as offering a fitting service.

Fife Community Safety Partnership operates the Fife Cares child safety service to help families with children under the age of 5 keep their homes safe. The service is free, whether the home is owned or rented.

During a home safety visit electrical sockets, plugs, flexes, and domestic appliances are checked to ensure they are safe to use. Advisers can also carry out minor repairs and, if necessary, install ten-year battery operated smoke alarms – free of charge.

Anyone with a child aged under 5 is eligible for a home safety visit.  For further information please call Fife Cares on 01592 599 599 or http://www.fifedirect.org.uk
