Seminar- Raising the Roof on Home Safety
On 23rd April 2008 HSS sponsored by SAPC are hosting a seminar "Raising the Roof on Home Safety" in Glasgow City Chambers. The seminar is aimed at like minded professionals and asks the question "Are we doing enough?" Dr Harry Burns, Chief Medical Officer will give the Keynote Speech and Dr David Stone will discuss injury prevention from a Public Health perspective. Alan Doyle of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue will give the most up to date information on domestic sprinkler systems while Nikki Butters from RoSPA will advise on current policy on the Can the Home Ever be Safe. Andrew Lee has shown interest in advising participants on obtaining relevant information from ISD.

AGM Update
At the annual general meeting of the group in December 2007 elections took place for the positions of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
Teresa Murphy was once again elected to the position of Chair. David Birrell was once again elected to the position of Secretary.
Bill Petherick was re-elected as Treasurer.
Group Secretary Gets Award
Long Service Safety Award
Fife Chamber of Safety presented David Birrell, with a Long Service Award at their annual awards presentation. David had been the Secretary of Fife Chamber of Safety (formerly Fife & Kinross Occupational Health & Safety Council) since 1984 and resigned from the post at the AGM in September 2005. Retirement
Mike Smith from Highland Council will be leaving the group after many years of attendence. Mike was one of the original members of the group and will be leaving in the new year. To mark his contribution to the group and to thank him for his years of home safety input the group presented him with an award at the recent AGM. Mike hopes to make it along to another couple of meetings next year.
